The Nguyen Nursery on Casino Road — Charcoal to Sage Green, One Day
In 2023 the Nguyens on Casino Road SE were converting their master bedroom into a nursery before their first baby arrived. The room was charcoal gray — a deep, dark color that looked great as a master bedroom but was the wrong choice for a nursery. They wanted SW Aloe SW 9132, a soft sage green that would work for an infant room without looking infantile.
The challenge with going from a very dark color to a light one is that even two coats of quality paint will show the dark base as a grayed-down version of the intended light color. I applied one coat of SW Extreme Block primer to all four walls and the ceiling first, which knocked the charcoal gray back to a neutral base. Then two coats of SW Harmony Zero VOC in Aloe SW 9132. Zero VOC was non-negotiable — the parents wanted the room to air out completely before the baby arrived, and they were right to insist on it.
One day total: furniture moved, prep, primer, two coats of Harmony, cleanup, furniture back. The Nguyens sent me a photo of the finished nursery from the doorway. The sage green was exactly right — calm and clean and nothing like the charcoal it replaced. Room had aired out fully within 24 hours.
Everett Neighborhoods — Room Painting Notes
Casino Road / Casino Rd SE
Densely built residential area in southeast Everett with a mix of 1970s–1990s homes and apartment buildings. Many homeowners in this area are doing single-room projects — a nursery conversion, a bedroom refresh before selling, or a living room repaint after years with the same color. Single rooms are welcome; there is no minimum job size. I can often schedule Casino Road single-room jobs within one week of the estimate.
Evergreen / Evergreen Way
Commercial and residential mix along Evergreen Way. Residential homes here are mostly 1960s–1980s construction with standard 8-foot ceilings — the most efficient room type to paint. Many of these homes still have original flat paint on walls that was never meant to be washable. I always note finish sheens during estimates and recommend upgrading kitchen and bathroom walls to eggshell or satin, which adds very little to the cost and makes a large practical difference.
Silver Lake / Silver Lake Rd
Suburban neighborhood with 1970s–1990s homes and larger lots. Room painting here often involves the lakeside living rooms and bedrooms where natural light from Silver Lake affects color choices. I test colors on large wall samples in natural light before committing — particularly important in rooms with north or west-facing windows near the lake where light can shift warm colors cool. One test day before painting saves a repaint.
Paine Field Area / 128th St SW
Growing residential area near Paine Field airport with a lot of newer construction from the 2000s–2010s. Builder-grade flat paint is the starting point on most of these homes, and after 10–15 years it is showing its age — scuff marks that won\'t wipe off, faded walls, and color that looks nothing like it did when new. Zero VOC is a popular request in this area, especially for households with young children. Harmony Zero VOC covers and holds as well as standard Duration.

What Everett Homeowners Say
"We needed the nursery done in one day — baby was due in three weeks. Antonio came in, prepped the charcoal gray walls with a blocking primer, and put two coats of zero VOC Aloe over it. Finished by 4pm, furniture back in by 5pm. The room was fully aired out the next morning with no smell whatsoever. Exactly what we needed."
The Nguyen Family — Casino Road SE
"Living room and dining room — two-day job. Antonio tested the paint color on the wall before we committed, which we appreciated since we\'d had a bad color experience in a previous home. The gray we chose looks exactly right in the afternoon light from Silver Lake. Clean work, no drips on the hardwood, done when he said he\'d be done."

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does room painting cost in Everett WA?
Room painting in Everett runs $350–$550 for a single room (walls only), $550–$850 for walls plus ceiling and trim, $900–$1,500 for two rooms, and $3,200–$8,500 for a whole home. Prices include prep, primer, and two coats of Sherwin-Williams Duration. Call (425) 287-3619 for a free written estimate.
How long does it take to paint a single room in Everett?
A single room — walls, ceiling, and trim — typically takes one full day. This includes moving furniture, prep, two coats with dry time between coats, and cleanup. Rooms needing blocking primer for dark colors (like the Casino Road nursery) are also usually done in one day.
Do you use zero VOC paint for room painting in Everett?
Yes. Sherwin-Williams Harmony Zero VOC is available for any room on request and is standard for nurseries and bedrooms where quick reoccupancy or air quality is a concern. Harmony covers and holds like regular Duration. Rooms air out fully within 24 hours of the final coat.
Can you match an existing paint color for room painting in Everett?
Yes. If you have the original color name or code, we can order that exact formula. If not, a spectrophotometer scan at the paint store can get a close match from an existing painted surface. For touch-up work, color match accuracy depends on how much the original has faded. We will tell you honestly if a match is going to be close enough or if a full repaint of the wall is needed.
